I got this crib in espresso. I wanted dark wood, but I was afraid the black would be too dark. The espresso color is beautiful! I noticed other reviewers complaining about a bad smell of the wood, I did not have that problem. There was virtually no smell at all, just a light wood smell. But even that is barely noticeable. So maybe this was a problem in the past and the company fixed it, but I had no issues with any bad smells. I had trouble finding the instructions, there were no paper instructions anywhere. I was upset about that, so I went online and found the instructions online. It was a jpeg so trying to print it out to be readable was a pain. I had to crop and print on several pieces of paper. The first piece of the crib to be put together was the mattress support, well when I grabbed that piece I felt like an idiot. The instructions were right there, a huge sticker attached to the mattress support! So I ditched the ones I printed out and used the instructions on the crib. It was 6 easy steps and I was able to put it together by myself. Took me about 2 hours to make sure I had all the pieces and then to assemble it. If I had my husband helping me it probably would have only taken 30 minutes, but I'm a perfectionist so I wanted to make sure I read the instructions several times and had all the pieces before I proceeded. It is a beautiful crib and I love that it has 4 different stages. I also read several reviews looking for the safest crib and this was on the top of the list. I tried to look on consumer reports but I think their list is outdated. I was unable to find the cribs they recommended. The price of this crib is unbeatable aswell. When the box arrived at my house it was torn all over the place. I was worried the crib would be damaged, but the crib was in another seperate box inside the outer box and was surrounded by Styrofoam, so it was well protected and was in perfect condition. Anyway I would definitely recommend this crib to anyone! :)

As others have already said, the crib is acceptable for the price. As a crib, it works well. As a toddler bed, not so much. Get yourself some pads or bumpers to protect the rails. It is easy for the little one to chew up. It is typical cheap throw away baby furniture(like the rest of the made in China products our country suffers from), but as long as your child doesn't chew the rails or you don't move it, this will suffice. I do have to advise the toddler "safety" rail is absolutely useless. Once my son started climbing out of the crib every night, I was forced to add it and remove the front rail. It is so tiny that it does absolutely nothing to keep the child in. My son falls out of bed on the floor every night. I was forced to purchase an additional rail from the manufacturer to keep him in, which was rather overpriced considering the low quality/cost of the crib to begin with. The safety of the crib and look of the finish are good, overall quality/durability not so much.
Update: the first "safety" rail from the company was drilled wrong. Ordered a second rail at my own cost, which was drilled wrong exactly the same as the first. Specified in the order that this was a problem, but got the same exact rail. On the whole, unhappy with the company and unwillingness to go out of their way to make sure the customer is always right. Times are tough and having to pay for a mistake that is not your own is not acceptable. Would decrease overall rating by 1 star and looking for another bed for my toddler.
